Lauren originally came to visit CABI back in 2017 as an A-level student, wanting to gain some insight into academic neurodegeneration research (see below throwback photo!). Since then though she's completed her BSc in Biochemsitry at UCL, and joins us for a summer placement.

ARUK-UCL Network Centre Summer Placement Award

Lauren's project with us has been made possible by an ARUK-UCL Network Centre Summer Placement Award, which will cover lab consumables for the duration of her project. This is great as it will allow us to try out some new experiments in the lab, and look at aspects of the glymphatic system in Alzheimer's which we haven't done previously.

Specifically, Lauren will be looking at the integrity of the dystrophin-associated complex in mouse brain tissue, aiming to determine if there are any changes which are associated with disease progression.

Outside of the lab, Lauren has taken on the very daunting task of designing and getting the lab's website up and running. I think you'll agree, she's done a great job so far! Welcome to the lab Lauren!
